Read the live release report

In Vivetra: Shelter › Live Release Report

On this page

The Live Release Report shows your live release rate and every outcome recorded in a date range, grouped the way the Asilomar Accords and Shelter Animals Count group them. Use it for board reports, grant applications or to see where your non-live outcomes come from.

You need permission to record outcomes to open this report. If Live Release Report isn't in your Shelter menu, ask your practice manager.

Run the report

The report covers episodes that resolved in the range: an outcome counts in the period it closed in. It starts on the last 90 days.

  1. Select Live Release Report in the Shelter menu.
  2. Choose a From date.
  3. Choose a To date.
  4. Select Run report.

If nothing resolved in the range, the page says so instead of showing a rate of zero. Widen the range, or record outcomes as episodes close (see Record an outcome).

The headline figures

Four tiles sit at the top: Live release rate, Live outcomes, Non-live outcomes and Outcomes counted.

The live release rate is live outcomes divided by live plus non-live outcomes.

Counts as Outcomes
Live outcome Adoption, Return to owner (reclaim), Transfer out, Returned to field (RTF)
Non-live outcome Euthanasia, Died in care, Escaped / lost in care
Unclassified Other

Outcomes recorded as Other are left out of the rate, because the software can't tell whether they were live. When there are some, the page also shows the rate you'd get if every one of them were live. Treat that as the upper bound, not the number.

When there are owner-requested euthanasias in the range, the page also gives the rate with those set aside, which is how Shelter Animals Count has counted them since 1 July 2022.

The tables

  • Outcomes by type: each outcome, whether it counts as live, how many episodes, and its share of the total.
  • Euthanasia by reason: every reason as recorded, Space / capacity included, plus Reason not recorded when a euthanasia has no reason on it.
  • Outcome by condition at intake: the same outcomes split by the condition recorded when the animal came in (Healthy, Treatable — rehabilitatable, Treatable — manageable, Unhealthy & untreatable and Unknown / not recorded), with a live release rate for each.

What's left out

Trap-neuter-return episodes are excluded from both sides of every figure, and the page tells you how many were left out. An episode counts as TNR when its outcome is released to field, or when it was opened as a community cat and didn't end in adoption, transfer or reclaim.

The report counts episodes, not animals. An animal with two resolved episodes in the range adds two outcomes.

For the monthly filing to Shelter Animals Count, see Report to Shelter Animals Count.
