Record a treatment authorization
In Vivetra: Livestock › Treatment Authorizations
A treatment authorization records standing permission to treat from whoever has legal authority over an operation's animals. It covers the common case where a feedlot manager or order buyer is on site but the animals' legal owner can't be reached.
By default, veterinarians, front-desk coordinators and practice managers can record and deactivate authorizations. Everyone can see them.
Record an authorization
- Select Treatment Authorizations in the Livestock menu.
- Under Record a new authorization, choose the Operation.
- To limit it to one lot, choose it in Narrow to one lot/group (optional). To limit it to one animal, use Narrow to one animal (optional). Leave both on — Whole operation — to cover everything.
- Enter the Authorizing party name and their contact details.
- Choose the Authorization scope: Routine care, Emergency only or Full.
- If they set a cap, enter it in Spending limit.
- Check the Documented on date, add notes, and select Record authorization.
The lot or animal you narrow to must belong to the operation you chose. Vivetra checks this when you save.
Find an authorization
All authorizations lists every authorization with what it's narrowed to, the authorizing party, scope, limit and status. You can also reach a filtered list from an operation's authorizations link, a lot's authorizations link on the lot roster, or an animal's Treatment authorizations link. Select ← Show all authorizations to clear the filter.
Deactivate an authorization
- Select view on its row.
- Select Deactivate this authorization.
It stays on file as Inactive. To turn it back on, open it and select Reactivate this authorization.
